General Info

Tucked away in the basement level of Jiyugaoka, Usubane Tokyo feels like one of those places you don’t just visit-you experience. Located at Japan, 〒152-0035 Tokyo, Meguro City, Jiyugaoka, 2 Chome−12−19 B1, this cozy cafe blends comfort food, music, and an easygoing atmosphere that keeps locals coming back and visitors lingering longer than planned.

The menu leans confidently into rich, satisfying curry dishes that feel carefully thought out rather than rushed. 焼きカレー is a standout, arriving hot with a deeply layered flavor that balances spice and warmth. If you’re in the mood for something hearty, the ローストポークカレー delivers tender pork paired with a bold curry base that feels indulgent without being heavy. There’s also the チーズチキンカツカレー, where crispy chicken cutlet meets melted cheese in a combination that’s comforting and filling. For something a little fresher and aromatic, the パクチーチーズキーマカレー adds herbs and cheese into the mix, giving the dish a lively, modern edge.

Coffee plays an important supporting role here. A well-brewed cup pairs naturally with the curry-focused menu, making Usubane Tokyo an easy choice for both dinner and relaxed evenings. The cafe setting keeps things casual, but there’s still a sense of care in how everything is presented and served. Reviews often mention how the food feels consistent, whether you’re stopping by for a quiet meal or arriving during a busier night.

One of the defining touches is the presence of live performances. Music fills the space without overpowering conversation, adding character and warmth to the dining experience. It’s the kind of detail that turns a simple dinner into a memorable night out. Accessibility is also thoughtfully handled, with a wheelchair-accessible entrance and wheelchair-accessible seating, making the space welcoming to a wider range of guests. For payment, PayPay is accepted, which fits smoothly into everyday life in Tokyo.

Between its comforting dishes, relaxed cafe atmosphere, and lively performances, Usubane Tokyo feels grounded and genuine. It’s a place where food, music, and mood come together naturally, leaving a lasting impression that feels honest rather than staged.

What customers say?

“ All you need to know is this, the curry at Usubane is AMAZING!!! Absolutely delicious!!! The Baked Curry is so unique, who ever considered adding pineapple and bananas to a veggie curry is a genius. The beef curry was super rich with the taste of caramelized onions and spices. ”

“ Dec 2, 2025 Quirky and hippie cafe that opens late. Hot latte (¥750) and chocolate cake (¥700) were not anything crazy but decent for a casual hangout with friends. Seemed popular for their curry but I didn’t have it. I liked the neon signs and the late night store ambience. 70% full at 9:00-10:00pm on a Tuesday night but didn’t feel jammed. ”

“ It's a cute café and restaurant. The person who served me (the owner?) was polite and helpful by going off-menu and making me a fairly good soy latte. The venue is pretty and well decorated and has a casual and friendly vibe about it. The fact that it's a basement induces a slightly claustrophobic feeling, though. Price-wise, slightly more expensive than the café chains at around ¥700 for a cup of coffee, but the quality of the coffee was fairly high. ”

“ The most cozy and the best coffee around of this area. Not only coffee, the sense of Usubane-san for selecting ingredients and sub-items He provides is adored. ”

- Futoshi Comiendo -

“ This place is highly underrated. The baked curry was amazing and unique with grilled banana, pineapple, and eggplant. The coffee was no joke either, the server put a lot of care in making it just right. This is a must try if you are anywhere south of Tokyo. ”

- Peda Ristic -

“ Grungy, hip underground cafe and bar specializing in curry, there’s a unique ambiance curated with vinyl records and Christmas lighting reminiscent of when I’d go to backyard block parties in Brooklyn back in the day. But it’s Japan, so it’s expected of course an ambiance tailored like this would entail a much cleaner atmosphere, expensively priced food & drinks and slightly pretentious service; however the curry sweetened with pineapple was truly a treat. Overall a solid choice for catching up with a friend in the evening or a fun dinner date where I’d recommend taking advantage of the cozy space and good food & drinks at a slow and steady pace. ”

“ This place instantly became one of my favorite spots in Tokyo. The music in the background is perfect, the ambiance is inviting, and the owner/staff are super friendly...and I haven’t even gotten to the curry yet. Seriously one of the best things I’ve had in Tokyo, the baked curry is a must try. It’s so good. And the coffee is worth getting too. Whatever you do, go eat here. You won’t regret it. ”

“ If you are not introduced to this cozy restaurant, probably you won’t even notice. It’s in basement. “Coffee and curry” is the official sign, but they do serve good drinks and snack to go with drinks. I had a Tacos and they served it very well. I had baked curry - yes, “baked” curry…. Obviously it is fusion as it has got pineapple which is also baked. You may be surprised how the baked curry can go together with their “coffee lemon sour” drink (it’s alcohol, just to be precise). Last, but not least, the chef and waiter make a good team - friendly and genuinely good people. Feel lucky this is in my neighborhood. ”
